Järleån (River Järle) is my latest discovery in the area of Bergslagen - central Sweden. A small but stunning nature reserve that had me completely enchanted since the very first visit. The river stretches for 30 kilometers, making it one of the largest watercourses of Örebro county, and the reserve protects a beautiful six-kilometre stretch of its valley. It’s a truly ancient place, with origins that reach back even before the Ice Age. Since then, the river has kept much of its natural course and along the way you’ll find one of the county’s most impressive sights—the mighty rapids of Långforsen. Stretching over 1,200 metres, this roaring cascade is really impressive, particularly in early spring when the water is high. Its nutrient-rich waters are home to plenty of fish and nymphs, which in turn support a thriving community of insects and birds, among which hundreds of Dragonflies. However, the rapids are not the only reason to visit. In the upper part of the reserve, the fields burst into bloom from early spring till late summer, with wildflowers carpeting the ground.
Further down, along the riverbanks, you'll meet old trees with tangled roots trailing into the water, and deciduous forests - lush and full of life.   A  truly magical, unspoiled environment that I'd just like to visit again and again.
